Right now we are exclusively using PayPal.me to handle sending gifts between friends and family! Why? Because PayPal is a trusted brand, they are globally recognized and they don’t charge a transaction fee for bank to bank transfers. However, we are actively working on adding additional methods of payment to our platform. Keep your eyes peeled, you never know what might transpire! How to create your PayPal.me account is explained in this short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37HWJH_PJj8

Currently, the app is available for iOS in North America (the US, Canada, and Mexico), India, and Australia. Gain first access to KOYA in your respective regions.

At KOYA, we have a strong value for connection and want to encourage our users to include a personalized message with every KOYA sent. We have added voice and will be adding photos to send personalized messages as well.

Because we want the best experience possible, KOYA limits availability to those phones that have accurate GPS (iPhone 6 and higher) without sacrificing battery life. In the future, it will be accessible for Android phones as well.

KOYA makes it easy to show your friends and family that you are thinking of them from afar! Think fun & purposeful messaging – with a few twists. To create a KOYA, simply pick a friend, a place they are likely to visit in the future, share a personal message and press send! Your KOYA will be discovered when your friend visits that place. It could be a coffee shop, work or home address, or even a famous landmark you know they will see on a trip. Also, KOYAs can have money attached via PayPal. So notifying a friend you are buying them their coffee, a soul cycle class, or tickets to the Eiffel Tower once they are at that place is now totally doable.n

KOYA is short for Kindness ON Ya.

Everyone!!! Extending serendipitous kindness to family and friends is a beautiful way to let others know that somebody is thinking about them.

Welcome to KOYA! Once you download the app, you will be able to send and receive KOYAs between your friends.

You can send a heartfelt message (audio or video) and an optional monetary gift through PayPal.me.

You will be sending a heartfelt video message, which oftentimes is the best gift of all. Your creativity around picking the perfect location to deliver the message also shows purpose and intentionality. Any monetary gift sent through KOYA is safely deposited into the receiver’s PayPal account whereas gift cards can be lost or forgotten and never actually used (over $1B gift cards unredeemed in 2018 alone).

Once the receiver enters the specified geofenced location set up by the sender, and if the KOYA app notification settings are set up, they will be notified via push message and a text message. A geofence is a virtual geographic boundary, defined by GPS that enables the KOYA app to trigger a response when a mobile device enters a particular arean

No. The recipient is free to use the gift however and wherever they choose.

Undiscovered KOYAs with monetary gifts expire after a year. The transfer of a monetary gift is initiated only if a KOYA has been discovered. This means that the sender does not lose any money should the gift remain undiscovered. KOYA differentiates from gift cards in that gift cards are purchased by the giver even if the gift card is never used by the receiver.

No, we believe gift-giving is between the sender and receiver. However, the sender can send a hint to the receiver to help them discover their KOYA. To send a hint, a receiver goes to the KOYA Sent screen to look at undiscovered messages. Below each undiscovered KOYA sent, you can select Send [receiver’s name] a Hint. Then type in a clue, hint, or a message that would remind the receiver they have an undiscovered KOYA waiting for them from you. You will have a record of when hints are sent and can send as many as your heart desires.

Absolutely! Currently, both the sender and receiver must have PayPal.me accounts to send and receive gifts. Be aware that your carrier’s international data charges may apply to view messages when not in WiFi coverage. If you are traveling, it would be best to have your friends create their KOYAs for you before leaving a place with good WiFi. Turning Airplane mode on will turn off location sensing and you will not be able to discover your KOYAs.

We’re glad you asked! Kindness begets kindness. Below each received KOYA is a button to send a thank you. Once you press the button you will be prompted to record a video message. After you’ve recorded your thank you, simply press “send” for it to be delivered. Check out this short video to see how it works: https://youtu.be/c92ajezAIzk

In the KOYA app on the bottom Tab bar to the far left, you will see the Sent tab. Here you will find all of the various KOYAs you have created and sent. At the top, beneath KOYA Sent, you can view how many KOYAs have been delivered or how many remain undiscovered. You can also quickly view the number of KOYAs sent and KOYAs received in Your Preferences which is found by tapping on the icon (your profile photo) in the top right-hand corner.n

KOYA Innovations Inc. will NEVER sell your location information to anyone. We will use your location to help troubleshoot and make the experience better over time. The KOYA app uses your phone’s current location to see if you are in a place where a KOYA message is waiting for you to discover. The app doesn’t track or store your location when you are outside of an undiscovered KOYA location. The KOYA app also checks your current location to center the map when you are beginning your search for a place to leave a KOYA message for friends.

Unlike other payment systems, only you and the recipient have access to gifting activity. KOYA is an experience best enjoyed together knowing the information is private.

Yes. If someone sends a KOYA to your phone number, you will be notified. We will provide the capability to block or delete this KOYA in an upcoming update to the app. KOYA is designed to be used between family and friends who likely have each other in their phone contacts.

Yes. You can use KOYA to send personal messages to be discovered anywhere in the world without attaching a gift.

Yes. KOYA is based on a freemium business model. This means you can use the basic features of creating and sending a KOYA, with and without a gift, for free. No ads. Gratis. We will be rolling out a premium subscription for $0.99 per month that will include enough cool stuff that we believe enough of you will want to use to make our business profitable. All while giving back 10% of our profits to charity. Pay it forward!

This depends on the type of location selected by the sender. If the location is a city (Austin, TX), then the radius of the geofence is 10 miles. If the location is a neighborhood or airport, the radius of the geofence is 2 miles. All other locations have a 150 feet (50 meters) geofence radius by default. Speed also plays a role as we do not trigger unless the phone is traveling less than 10mph when entering smaller radius locations. This avoids accidental drive-by triggers when the location was not the primary destination.

If your contact only includes an email address then it isn’t possible to select them within KOYA. Simply add their phone number via the native address book and KOYA will recognize their phone number. n

Unlike purchasing a gift card and hoping the receiver actually uses it, KOYA helps you orchestrate a very thoughtful experience that is delivered at just the right time and place along with a gift that is ALWAYS accepted if found.nnIf the KOYA is never discovered, then there is no loss to the sender. And because we use PayPal.me to handle the gift transfer, the sender can decide which payment method to cover the gift promised. It could be a credit card or bank card or from their PayPal account.n

Simply swipe down to show all of your notifications and find those from KOYA. Tap on the notification, once it opens tap the “X”, and then tap “Clear”. Next, open the KOYA app and see if you have any Thank You’s to send or gifts to confirm or messages to view. Once theses have been reviewed the red dot will disappear. Nice and clean for those perfectionists out there 🙂

Glad you asked. We will be rolling out a premium subscription service in 2021 while keeping the basic services free for everyone to enjoy.

A popular tip to speed up your iPhone and extend its battery life is to quit all your background apps. However, this habit can actually drain your phone’s battery. Force quitting apps defeats the purpose of iOS’ design, which “freezes” apps you’re not using, so you can relaunch them quickly. Reopening apps you’ve terminated takes up more energy than switching between “frozen” apps. KOYA needs to be running in the background to determine when you enter a place that has a KOYA waiting for you to discover.
